The Power of Naming (OOC)

Image
Abe ponders : As we limp back towards Saltmarsh and Ellie she is trying not to kill the rest of us while making poisons, we might reflect on all of our [limited] adventures and consider a name.  We've made some enemies so perhaps we've made some friends now, too no? - it's clear we'll be having each others backs for some time. I'm sure others will have better ideas but here's my head dump.  Ship names are stronger than crew names. Ship Name candidates from Abe: The Morning Wood Goldblade's Revenge   (for the dead girl we found on the first day) Enterprise (mostly because Archmage Rob says we get to find crew.  I see Uhura and Bones and....) Several were in the "also ran" category.  Carribean Queen, Black Freighter (from Watchmen) (cuz once you go.... nevermind), Black Treasurer (from Ffafhrd), The Blue Nixie, Intruder   Crew Name candidates from Abe: Also rans were Trouble Brewing Company LLC and Three Men and a Little Lady.  The only nota

Archmage Halstead: Ahoy Matey - The Third Session

The strangers started their day out after the assassination attempt on the Saltmarsh Council.  Some hostilities seemed to be resolved and the party looted the raiders of the town as they watched the Sea Ghost limp out to sea.  They found some various weapons, mariners’ armor, a magical mace, Sanbalet’s special pipes, and some loose coins.  The strangers debated whether to pursue the Sea Ghost immediately or let the ship come to them at a later date.  Gellen upon overhearing their conversation suggested maybe talking to Xendros whose ship the shadow dancer was at his docks.  Since she had stumbled upon the Ghost once before and seemed to have a way with knowing where smugglers might hide a ship that was damaged maybe they would be able to track the Ghost.  They went and talked to Xendros at her shop, where she once again reminded them that she was more than willing to deal in items of the non-mundane and that her inventory changed weekly.  Adamas was still wary of the Lloth loving Tie

The definition of drowning - (Abe)

The Other End of the Telescope I can see las oejas al lobo.  A certain, for the wolf is looking at me. Two days ago I was cut down from Ned short sword at the Whitecrag camp.  My new friends left me dead a while to think about it, and I'm certain I don't like it. Today I died twice more, as a fireball did not respect my hiding place and when I so bravely rushed out to raise the fallen Lleyash from the ground. The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.  Andando con pies de plomo.  For all my swagger, I am failing.  We are foundering and sinking and unlike the others I am over my head.  Not waving but drowning. Frightening, no? But I am a shantyman.  Still, I am of service.  This crew I was certain would fray and fail is now rallying around Lleyash in his best attempts with Hannah.  melón.  His best line tonight after an attack at the door?  " Does the danger excite you ?" Adamas did his best to help with a wet kitten.  I played a new song of inspiration and fed him

Archmage Halstead: The Second Session

Image
[From his popular memory stone " Stranger Things Have Happened : Saltmarsh Session Two"]      The strangers awoke in the morning, minus Adamas.  Not knowing what to make of his apparent death they decided to continue with their mission and traverse further into the swamp in search of the criminal Whitecrag and Ned.  After about 30-40 minutes of travel, they found evidence of a meeting between two groups that were coming north to Saltmarsh and that were going south from Saltmarsh.  The tracks jumbled together as in a meeting and then they turned back to the south deeper into the Mere of Dead Men.  As they were investigating the tracks Adamas appeared from the woods saying he had been out scouting ahead and stumbled upon the same tracks.  After greetings were exchanged, the party rejoined and decided to continue deeper into the swamp. They stumbled upon an orc patrol talking about pleasing their master and hid (or so most of them thought) in the woods other than the stone wall

This feeling is.... not so good (Abe)

So very happy that we only have one moody one.  This young one is the turkey's age, as we say back in and I was so certain he'd be another brooding thundercloud.  He fails miserably at a moustache, but has a lovely cape.  The latter is always enough in my book.  He has cats eyes, which reminds me to collect gambling debts from the Empty Nest later. Ellie continues to keep to herself, with weak admonitions from whatever dying embers of her faith remain.  You can tell her heart isn't in it, but neither is she eager to jump in to danger.  We're tracking into a forest and she's fitful. The golden lion pretends his moustache is more important than mine.  Stiff as a board now and on his way back to Torm or whoever he said he served.  I could have told him a thing or two about being a "moderately successful mercenary" but never got to ask him about whatever trouble they found in Phandelin. For myself, I try not to show my age.  I keep to the flourishes she always

Archmage Halstead: The First Session

Image
[Excerpt from the memory stone "A Fallacy of Hope: Saltmarsh Session One"]      You entered Saltmarsh from different places.   Abe and Elle had been in the town for a while, one working at the Snapping line and the other trying to find themselves.   Adamas and Leyash entered the town gates while traveling the area around Phandilin looking for work and a new start.   Abe was hired to work the town bash Thrown by Gellen and Elle agreed to attend to see him perform while Adamas and Leyash were drawn to the festivities by the music and laughter which seemed opposed to the town’s reputation.   The group mingled and met each other warily.   As they were talking, Gellen Primewater was showering the crowd in gifts from his balcony overlooking the docks.   Eventually they noticed a game being played at the edge of the party.   This game was called Claw Pong and a local group called the Black Blades was winning.   They accepted the challenge to play the blades thrown down by Gellen,

Work at the Snapping Line

New Work She was working as a waitress in this cocktail bar.  When I met her. Perhaps this is another song, no? Hanna Rist recognizes talent when she sees it.  Or perhaps clean clothes.   Jom takes up on a stool by the door.  He is a smarter and bigger than I am but I pretend I don't know this.  I teach him the little magic I have.  He is trying to teach a pale elf cleric how to not get caught sneaking.  I can teach her to pick locks.  In return,  she is trying to teach him how to make friends.  They are both very bad at this. My fame in this town has grown somewhat.  I penned a drinking song for the thugs at the Empty Nest that has made its way around the coast, and now Gellen wants me at a party tomorrow. Who knew Waterdeep gossip could be such a boon?
